Community venue hire at Bruce Pulman Park makes a difference to the whole community. It’s as simple as making a booking. 

Bruce Pulman Park thinks a little differently than your average community venue. It’s a large-scale sports, recreation and community park situated in Takanini with state of the art facilities and acres of room to grow. It has grand plans of being a south Auckland hub for a vast array of community sports right through to hosting top international competitions and teams. In many ways, they are the envy of other sports facilities in the region because the potential is so huge and there is physically room to grow throughout the 65 hectare site. There is so much going on the whole time, it is difficult to capture it all concisely but what they do at a basic level and what they want to continue to do, regardless of how big it gets, is look to add value and create connections between the community, sports groups and the business community who use the facilities. One of the ways they do that is how they give back to the community through venue hire. They live their moto – #OurPeopleOurParkOurCommunity – and they take great pride in every aspect of that. 

Take the onsite containers as an example. They were necessary for equipment storage but a bit of an urban eyesore in the middle of a beautiful green park but with the support of 5+ A Day Charitable Trust, Resene and Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust they arranged the 5+ A Day Container Mural Project with striking nature inspired murals painted by Pascal Bridger, a well known local street artist. He splashed his creative magic over the containers and now they are containers worth looking at!

To take it a step further, Bruce Pulman Park has launched a community give back scheme where 10% of the booking fees paid by businesses for the hire of the meeting rooms or sports facilities is put back into improving the visual appeal of the site. The initiative has gathered a momentum of its own with a cluster of local park suppliers doing their bit to make a difference by offering to be part of this journey. They donated plants, equipment and materials for the regeneration of a pond on the site and it’s done wonders! Rather than a stinky, unloved wet hole the park now has a re-generated, fully planted pond that adds vibrancy and enhances the natural habitat for wildlife and park users alike.

Farrell’s Nurseries, Hill Design, B W Henderson, Kennards Hire, Rattrie Construction and Fenceworld donated plants, equipment and materials to help regenerate the pond at Bruce Pulman Park.
